A Busy Few Weeks!!

Year 2 have had a very busy start to the Autumn Term.

To begin our topic 'Pop Up', we had a visit from a local Author and Story Teller who told the children how he gets inspired to write stories. He even wrote a brand new story just for us!

We have been reading, acting out and discussing lots of Fairy and Traditional Tales. On Friday we even had a letter from Prince Charming! He has asked Class 4 to design and make some really special Wedding Invitations for his wedding to Cinderella, so Class 4 are going to be really busy up to half term carrying out his request!!

We have decided to hold our own 'Ball' in class to help Prince Charming and Cinderella celebrate their wedding. Details will be posted ASAP!!

The street party was also really great! A day to always remember!!

Centenaty Celebration!

We can't believe it! Our school is celebrating it's 100th birthday!

It was 100 years ago this April that the 'tin school' was built and to celebrate our centenary, we are learning about our school - how it has changed and how lessons have changed throughout the last 100 years!
We firstly discovered that our very first classroom was originally in 'The Bear Inn' and we located the exact room in which the children were taught!
Mr Francis has visited our class telling us wonderful stories about our amazing school and the different types of lessons that went on.
We have written questionnaires to ask our family members about their experiences as past pupils of the school and Mrs Thomas (Amelia's mum) and Mrs Sharp (Gethin's mum) will be coming into school next week to talk to our class about their experiences and to answer any questions we might have!

We are really looking forward to next Friday where we will be dressed in Edwardian clothes, being taught Edwardian lessons, having a very special assembly, having a special street party and taking part in old playground games!

Red Nose Day 2013!

What a 'Fun Friday' we had this week!
We all had either 'mad' hair, wore silly hats or red noses in order to raise as much money as we can for 'Comic Relief'.
We also told jokes. Here are some of our favourites!

"Why did the lady put a trumpet in the fridge?"
" So that she could play cool music!"

"Knock, knock,"
"Who's there?"
"Little old man,"
"Little old man who?"
"Little old man who can't reach the doorbell!"

"What did one snowman say to the other snowman?"
"Can you smell carrots?"

"Two crisps walked past a bus stop. A bus pulled by and asked if they would like a lift. They replied 'No thanks, we're Walkers!"

We definitely did 'Something Funny For Money!'

Wythnos Cymreag!

We have had a very busy 'Welsh Week'!
From drawing our leeks and daffodils and using watercolours to paint them to learning our welsh Eisteddfod poem and song.
We have researched and designed posters of welsh attractions and have learnt about who St.David was and why we celebrate St.David's Day.
We read a welsh language book based on St.David's Day and have created some funky folk dances too!

Da iawn pawb!!

To infinity and beyond!

We've had an 'Out of this World'  experience this week when we all created aliens in class! Having listened to the music from 'War of the Worlds' we drew our aliens, labelling how they looked and identified their characteristics. We then described our aliens using similes. Here are some examples:-

Rhys - "His hair is like a hedgehog in a ball!"

Bradley - " His skin is like a bumpy road."

Gethin - "His body is as round as a circle."

Ashley "His teeth are as red as blood!"

Olivia - "He moves like melting ice-cream."

Kelly-Ann - "His feet are like bricks from a house."

Amber - "His legs are wobbly like jelly."

We painted our aliens and all wrote a newspaper report based on our alien encounter! These reports are so good, they will be on display in our classroom! Well done everybody!
